Somiya Mabu Alam

Somiya Mabu Alam is a Bachelor of Nursing student at Griffith University with strong community connections to the Rohingya population across Brisbane and Logan. Drawing on her lived experience and extensive community engagement, she has supported Rohingya families as a bilingual interpreter and Cultural Support Worker, helping community members navigate health, education and social service systems.

Somiya has completed multiple clinical placements across aged care, medical‑surgical and mental health settings, developing skills in person‑centred care, communication and trauma‑informed practice. Her work with the Rohingya Women Youth Group reflects her commitment to strengthening health literacy, building trust between communities and services, and promoting equitable access to culturally safe healthcare.
