Samira Ali is originally from Eritrea and is a mother of three children. She has lived in Australia for over 10 years. Before coming to Australia, she lived in the Netherlands for nearly 11 years where she completed her high school and university studies in Nutrition Science (Dietitian).
In Australia she has worked with Multicultural Australia as a cultural support worker and at Qld Program of Assistance to Survivors of Torture and Trauma (QPASTT) providing support for single mothers. She has also worked as an interpreter with TIS and On Call for 10 years. She often supports new arrivals from refugee backgrounds and the refugee health sector. She has been part of the ‘Refugee Health Advisory Group ‘(G11) since it began in 2014.
She is involved as a volunteer in the Eritrean community, including being on the board at Muooz restaurant which started in 2010. She is inspired by what Muooz stands for as a not-for-profit organisation supporting women in Australia and families in Africa.
